Our Barbeque TEAM proudly offers premium smoked meats, hickory smoked on site, that take up to 20 hours to prepare. We also offer great Homemade Italian specialty foods as well as a variety of Homemade Fixin’s.
Harkert’s BBQ was founded in 1984 by one of the great cooks in Omaha, Dino Meares. When Dino past away in 2003, the BBQ was turned over to a long time employee, Gina Werth. Gina kept up the smoking and cooking tradition of homemade foods that we all came to expect.
Being a customer for over 20 years and an owner of other restaurants, I bought Harkert’s BBQ in 2007. My goal from the beginning has been not only to keep up the tradition that Dino began and Gina continued, but to exceed your expectations of great Smoked Meats, Italian Specialties and Homemade Fixin’s. I want you to have the ultimate Harkert’s dining experience.
At times we sell out of items on the menu. We would rather have to tell you NO than to cut corners and not give you our very best. We simply won’t compromise just to make a sell.

RIB Calculator
A Rack of Ribs is usually 12 to 14 Bones. A Half Rack of Ribs then is 6 Bones. Our dinners are all served as a Half Rack. When serving more than one meat entry, figure 3 to 4 Bones per person, one rack for every 4 people. When Ribs are the only meat entry, we figure one Rack feeds 2 ½ people. It’s the half person that always throws off the math.
By The Pound Calculator
When trying to figure out how much you need to order, we usually figure a quarter pound per person. That said, consider what you are serving the meat on, Sliced Bread or a Bun? Then consider how large or small the Bread or Bun is. Is this a Kid party? Teenage party? Or an Adult party? Mostly men? Mostly women? OK, now you’re starting to get why we go with the quarter pound per person figure. There’s nothing wrong with leftovers.
Our Sides/Fixins’/Extras are also pretty close to figuring a quarter pound (4 oz) per person. Our experience tells us that 5 to 6 ounces of Baked Beans is not out of line to use as a figure for total bean need. Knowing whose eating is really helpful when figuring food amounts.
